Every year, the Night of Ideas brings people together to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and explore the questions shaping
our world. In 2026, the Canadian edition takes place around the theme “Paving the Way”: From
the Stars to Future Generations. When science, commitment, and knowledge-sharing push boundaries
Organized by the Embassy of France in Canada and the Institut français du Canada, in collaboration with
the network of Alliances Françaises and local partners, the Night of Ideas creates a space for dialogue between
communities, thinkers, and younger generations.
In Edmonton, join us on October 29, 2026, at the Visual Arts Centre of Alberta (CAVA) for an evening of
conversation and discovery.
Our guest, Fatoumata Kébé, astrophysicist, author, and science communicator will explore the universe, scientific
discovery, and the power of knowledge to help us imagine and build new paths forward.
The conversation will take us from the stars to our own planet, exploring Fatoumata Kébé’s passion for making astrophysics accessible,
inspiring curiosity through research, writing, and storytelling. We’ll discover the ideas behind her latest book, Au-delà du ciel,
and reflect on what the universe can reveal about ourselves and the world around us. The discussion will also explore the fascinating
connections between astronomy, our planet, and the environmental challenges shaping our future.
Who is Fatoumata Kébé?
Fatoumata Kébé is an astronomer whose work explores the relationship between space, humanity, and our environment. A doctor
of astronomy from Sorbonne Université, she studies how space activities affect astronomical observations and contribute to pollution around
Earth. She founded Éphémérides, an organization that brings astronomy closer to the public, and is also involved with Connected
Eco,
an initiative focused on preserving water in agriculture.
