Our Teachers

All of our teachers are qualified in the teaching of French as a Second Language (FSL).



Victoria

Victoria comes from Toulouse, the “Pink City” located in the Southwest of France. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s studies there before working for two years at a university in Thailand. Afterward, she had a brief but enriching teaching experience in Dubai, followed by online teaching for children and adults in the UK. Her desire to work abroad eventually brought her to Canada, and in October 2024, she decided to settle in Edmonton. Outside of teaching, Victoria enjoys cooking both savory and sweet dishes, going for walks, and discovering new places.



Ndeye


Ndeye is originally from the Paris region. She arrived in Edmonton in 2017, where she began teaching French. Ndeye joined the Alliance Française of Edmonton in 2018. She loves traveling, discovering new flavors, and getting lost in the city.


Anindita

Anindita is a French teacher originally from India. She holds a bachelor’s degree in French language and literature from the University of Delhi and a master’s degree in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) from Brest, France. She worked as an English language assistant in Lannion, taught French to immigrants in France, and served as a French teacher in the United States as part of a scholarship program. Outside of teaching, she enjoys walking, running, and binge-watching TV shows. She also loves meeting new people—one of the many reasons she enjoys teaching French!


Flavie

Flavie is a French teacher. Originally from Blois, France, she studied literature and went on to earn her master’s degree in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) at the Sorbonne. Passionate about languages and cultures, she taught in Indonesia before joining the team at the Alliance Française in Edmonton in January 2026. Flavie also loves to dance, read, and take walks in nature.



Jeisson


Jeisson is of Colombian origin. He holds a degree in philology and languages, with a specialization in French, from the National University of Colombia. He lived for a year in the French Alps and had the opportunity to visit several French-speaking countries, including Switzerland, Belgium, and Monaco. Passionate about travel, discovering new cultures, teaching, and nature, Jeisson has more than fourteen years of experience as a French teacher. Throughout his career, he has taught at various educational institutions, as well as for the Colombian National Police and the Colombian National Army, and at the Alliance Française of Colombia. Eager to combine his passion for the French language, his commitment to teaching, and his interests, Jeisson chose to continue his professional career in Edmonton, where he enthusiastically joined the Alliance Française team.


Constant

Constant is a teacher of French as a foreign language from Brittany, France. He holds a master’s degree in the teaching of French as a foreign and second language from the University of Lille, as well as a master’s degree in European and international affairs from the University of Paris Nanterre. He has taught French and participated in educational and cultural projects in Tajikistan and Serbia before joining the Alliance Française in Edmonton in 2026. Passionate about languages, travel, and intercultural exchange, he also enjoys photography.


Josselin

Born in Normandy, Josselin earned his master’s degree in French as a Foreign Language and Japanese Language and Culture in Paris, where he lived. After living abroad in several countries, including South Korea and China, Josselin arrived in Canada in 2016. He has worked at other Alliances Françaises as well as in Calgary’s public libraries. Josselin is passionate about reading fantasy and science fiction, but also enjoys video games, general knowledge, and language learning.

Jean-Luc

Jean-Luc was born in Ivory Coast, where he completed his Bachelor's degrees in Education and Marketing. He worked as a teacher there for several years before going to Edmonton in 2016. Additionally, he is proficient in German. Jean-Luc enjoys playing soccer, traveling, and relishing spicy food!


Charu

Charu, who began her career as a primary school teacher in India, shifted her focus to teaching French and joined the Alliance française of Edmonton in 2009. Her enthusiasm and vitality will undoubtedly captivate you, as she employs a friendly and effective approach to teaching French.


Cynthia

Cynthia was born in France and grew up on Réunion Island. After working for 10 years in early childhood education and project management, she decided to transition into teaching and completed a Bachelor of Education at the University of Alberta. Cynthia joined our team in September 2020. She is passionate about travel, photography, yoga, and hiking.



Damema

Damema, who was born and raised near Paris, arrived in Canada in 2018. As one of our French teacher, Damema takes pleasure in gathering insights from others on a diverse range of subjects, including movies, literature, fashion, and current affairs. She also enjoys practicing yoga, she loves Indian cuisine, and exploring different parts of the globe.


Nelly

Nelly's teaching journey began in Lebanon, where she taught French as a Foreign Language. She has been a teacher at the French Alliance of Edmonton since 2009, and her expertise in motivating and captivating students is unparalleled. Moreover, Nelly has a remarkable ability to customize her teaching methods according to your specific language needs.


Clara


Clara teaches French as a Foreign Language. She completed her Master’s internship at the Alliance Française of Edmonton in 2022 and has been teaching there ever since. Originally from Normandy, where she currently lives, Clara enjoys creating a climate of trust and kindness in her classes to encourage learners to progress with confidence. An animal lover, passionate about boxing, and fond of seaside walks, she shares her culture with simplicity and good humor.


Mauricio


Mauricio Cárdenas, originally from Colombia, holds a PhD in language didactics and linguistics from Université Grenoble Alpes in France. His interests include language teaching through the principles of peace education, teacher training, the design of educational materials, and the integration of digital tools in education. His professional background is marked by an international dimension, with experience in Canada, Colombia, and France. He enjoys making music, cooking, and playing sports. He joined the AFE team in 2025.


Blandine


Blandine was born in Côte d’Ivoire, where she completed her schooling and university studies in French. She worked there as an accountant before immigrating to Canada in 2015. In 2020, she earned a Bachelor of Education with a minor in Inclusive Education from the University of Alberta. Blandine enjoys reading, traveling, listening to music, and discovering cuisines from around the world!


Viviana


Viviana, a graduate in philosophy from the Sorbonne University in Paris, holds a Master’s degree in teaching French as a foreign language (FLE). She is a certified DELF DALF examiner and grader, with 5 years of teaching experience. Passionate about the French language, she will be delighted to support you in your learning journey.

Camilo

Camilo is originally from Colombia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Philology and French Language, as well as a Master 1 in Learning Design. He has worked as a French teacher in schools, at the Alliance Française in Bogotá, the Alliance Française in Ottawa, and now at the Alliance Française in Edmonton. He values the emotional connection students build with a language, as he believes it can boost their learning abilities.


Meryeme

Meryeme is a French as a Foreign Language (FLE) teacher specialized in supporting learners of various levels and in diverse contexts, ranging from FOS (French for Specific Purposes) to oral communication courses. With experience working with school, university, and professional audiences, she designs teaching units tailored to learners’ concrete needs, prioritizing a communicative and interactive approach. She is particularly interested in the connection between language and culture, as well as in implementing methods that foster students’ autonomy and motivation.


Marie

Marie was born in Cameroon, where she earned a Master's degree in Biochemistry and worked as a Quality Control Engineer. She also has experience tutoring children and young learners in her country. Now living in Canada, Marie works as an Early Childhood Educator, where she combines her passion for teaching, creativity, and child development. Outside of work, Marie enjoys cooking, discovering new flavors and cultures, and relaxing at home while watching TV series. She is passionate about helping learners grow in confidence in a positive and supportive environment.

Fabio
Customer Service Associate

Fabio was born in the city of Joinville, in Brazil, where he lived and worked as a psychologist and an educator, teaching philosophy at a college and English as a Second Language to teenagers and adults. In 2024 he achieved his dream of moving to Canada with his wife and two beautiful daughters. Learning French was essential for that process, since it opened that opportunity and many others, including joining the AFE team. He is passionate about videogames, language learning and critical thinking.

Anastasiia
Exams and Corporate Training Manager 

Anastasiia is originally from Ukraine , travelled, lived and worked all over the world, including several countries in Europe, South Asia and North America. She graduated university in Ukraine and continued her studies in France. She has worked with children and adult groups for the past few years. She moved to Edmonton in 2023 and became a part of our team. She likes hiking, skating and going for walks with her dogs.


Tom
Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Originally from Lyon, France, Tom has built a diverse career in communications, working across fields such as interior design, public transportation and, more recently, the cultural sector. After spending a year in Calgary, he decided to make Edmonton his new home.Outside of work, Tom is passionate about photography, travel and music, always looking for new experiences and inspiration.

Raphaël
Administrative Assistant

Originally from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Raphael was raised in Dakar, Senegal. He just graduated from Campus Saint Jean - University of Alberta with a diploma in Business Administration. He recently joined the team as an administrative assistant with the purpose of expanding his knowledge and being part of dynamic and stimulating team. He is passionate about administration, finance and economics.

Adjaratou
Educational Assistant

Originally from Côte d’Ivoire, Addy joined our team in July 2026 as our Pedagogical Assistant. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Alberta - Campus Saint-Jean, with experience in administrative support, coordination, and client services. Driven by curiosity and a genuine desire to keep learning, she is delighted to contribute to the mission of the Alliance Française d’Edmonton. Outside of work, Addy enjoys staying active, fashion, spending time with family, and travelling.

Flavie
Culture and communication intern 

Originally from Angers in France, Flavie is in a master's degree in Direction project cultural. After obtaining Licence in Information and Communication, she decided to move toward the world of live performances. Passionate about dance and music, she has been practicing dance for over 10 years and chose to dedicate her final theses to music. Flavie also enjoys reading, cinema and sports.

Anne-Carole
Executive Director


Anne-Carole joined the Alliance Française of Edmonton in 2019, after serving as Executive Director of the Alliance Française in Mutsamudu, Comoros, and previously as Class Director at the Alliance Française in Beijing, China. Appointed Executive Director in Edmonton in 2020, she brings a strong commitment to language education and cultural exchange. Passionate about multilingualism and lifelong learning, she works to create inclusive programs that reflect Edmonton’s diverse community. Outside of her role, Anne-Carole enjoys dancing Kizomba and continues to celebrate culture through movement and connection.


Emma
Deputy Director and Cultural Coordinator

Emma oversees all of our cultural and social events, as well as our communication efforts. With a background in communication and press relations from her literary studies, Emma earned a Master's degree in Intercultural Management in France. Her passion for exploring new cultures and meeting new people led her to venture to Canada. Emma is an avid sports enthusiast and particularly enjoys horseback riding, cooking, dancing, hiking...


Lucille
Educational Coordinator


Lucille joined the Alliance Française of Edmonton as Educational Director in August 2026. Before moving to Canada, she served as Executive Director of the Alliance Française of St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean. Her career in French language education has also taken her to India and West Africa, where she worked in both teaching and academic leadership roles. Passionate about languages, cultures and education, Lucille holds a Master’s degree in Teaching French as a Foreign Language. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, practicing yoga and kung fu.


Our Board

As a non-profit organization, our board is here to make sure we're on the right strategic path and helps with administration and planning. Any member of the Alliance française of Edmonton can be presented as a candidate and elected for 2 years during the Annual General Meeting.


Bernadette Quémerais
President

Bernadette Quémerais was born and raised in Saint-Nazaire, Loire-Atlantique. She moved to Montreal in 1989 and has since lived in California and Toronto. Bernadette has been a member of the Alliance Française of  Edmonton since June 2012 and on the board of directors since 2016. She is the president since March 2024. She enjoys travelling, outdoor sports, gardening and drawing.




Raymond Matthias

Vice-president

Originally from Edmonton, Raymond has a deep passion for language learning and spent the better part of a decade living in Japan and China. He became a member of the Alliance Française in Edmonton a few years ago as part of an effort to rekindle his French language studies.



Eric Dilligeard

Treasurer

Eric Dilligeard, originally from Dinan in Brittany, arrived in Canada 25 years ago and lived in Quebec and Ontario before permanently settling in Alberta. An Edmonton resident for 13 years, he has served on the Alliance Française Board of Directors since 2022, holding various roles before taking on his current position as Treasurer.



Bill Godfrey

Advisor

Bill Godfrey was a teacher and school principal in Edmonton for 33 years. One of his retirement projects has been to learn French, and he started taking classes with the Alliance Française in 2019. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2021.




Annabelle Villeneuve
Advisor

Born in Belle Isle en Mer in Brittany, Annabelle became Canadian in 2009. She lived in Quebec City, Winnipeg and Edmonton. She loves getting out in nature and has recently discovered a passion for gardening.



Daniela Modoran
Advisor

Daniela became an Edmontonian in 2023, having chosen to retire and move there from Vancouver. She joined the Alliance Française in 2024 as a student. After moving to Edmonton, she felt it was the right time to reconnect with the French language and keep the momentum going. She loves the French language and culture, as well as photography and walks along the River Valley.







Bruce Cockburn
Secretary

Bruce Cockburn grew up in Ottawa and moved to Edmonton in 1990 to take up a position as professor of Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta. His first significant experience with French was as a child in the summer of 1968, when he spent six weeks at a summer camp in Villard-de-Lans near Grenoble in the French Alps. From 1969 to 1973 his father's career brought the family to Belgium, and it was there that Bruce picked up most of his French from Walloon friends. He began his involvement with Alliance Francaise of Edmonton as a student in 1991. In his spare time Bruce enjoys travelling, walking & cycling, genetic genealogy and playing trombone.
